Free seminar for men to keep up their health, wellness and happiness
Jun 06, 2017
Hollywood Private Hospital (Hollywood) is hosting a free seminar on men’s health at the Kalamunda Hotel, Saturday 17 June, 2.00pm – 3.00pm.
The ‘Keep it Up’ seminar will be delivered by Hollywood urological surgeon, Dr Tom Shannon, to educate men and the women in their lives about the importance of good health and its impact on men’s physical, sexual, psychological and social wellbeing.
Commenting on the community event, Dr Shannon said "Males are programed to fix problems and to wait until something goes wrong to address it. This is a challenge for disease prevention that leads to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Most problems are easy to treat if dealt with early and chronic illness can be avoided altogether with small changes to lifestyle."
"I want to help men to take control of their own health, reducing their risk of cancer as well as diabetes, and heart and vascular disease. Making the necessary changes can have a significant effect on their health, wellness and happiness."
"With consulting rooms at Hollywood and the Midland GP Super Clinic, I see many patients from Kalamunda and the surrounding hills areas. I’m looking forward to meeting with members of the local community at the event to find out how we can best serve their healthcare needs."
Dr Shannon is a urologist with over 15 years’ experience treating prostate cancer and is a passionate advocate of men’s health. He is a founding board member of the Prostate Cancer Foundation WA and the West Australian Urological Research Organisation.
