Hollywood Private Hospital staff use pedal power to fight children’s cancer
Nov 25, 2021
Three Hollywood Private Hospital staff rode 1563km and raised $2520 to fight children’s cancer as part of the Great Cycle Challenge.
Colin Sharpe, Karen Webb and Nikolas Hughes cycled to achieve individual distance targets throughout the month of October.
The money raised will go towards the Children’s Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
In Australia, about 750 children aged 0 -14 are diagnosed with cancer each year. 1 Three children die of cancer every week. 2
Inventory Controller Colin Sharpe said it was the seventh year he had participated in the Great Cycle Challenge.
“I do it to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve – together we can save little lives,” Mr Sharpe said.
Chief Executive Officer Peter Mott said he was proud when staff came together for an important cause.
“Our staff provide the best care possible to families being treated for cancer, and it is important to continue supporting research to help children with the disease,” Mr Mott said.
“At Hollywood we encourage philanthropy and promote a healthy lifestyle.
“For example, our TravelSmart Program encourages staff members to leave their car at home and take alternative transport to work, such as walking or cycling.”
