Artist Esti Nagy, who is creating a mural at the hospital’s new emergency department (ED), also invited students to have a go at painting.

Ms Nagy held two workshops with the Year 3 students, to provide insight into what is involved in the process of designing and painting the mural.

Ms Nagy said the aim of the design was to create a mural that is calming, while bringing a sense of spaciousness, beauty and freedom to the area.

“We identified red tailed black cockatoos as very special birds that visit the area, and bring with them a sense of joy and awe,” Ms Nagy said.

“Elements of the design symbolise the flight path of the cockatoos, the corridor along which they travel from Kings Park towards the coast – the path includes the hospital’ grounds and the neighbouring Hollywood Primary School.

“Through the artwork, we wanted to provide some respite from the stress of what might have brought the viewer to the ED.”

Georgiou Project Manager Jay Whitman invited the children to the ED site to see the painting in progress. He also organised to have the students’ artwork professionally printed and it will displayed alongside the mural upon completion.

In recognition of their efforts, Hollywood Chief Executive Officer Peter Mott presented Teacher Ryan Shaw with a voucher for Educational Art Supplies in Nedlands.

“Our hospital has always had a special bond with our neighbours – Hollywood Primary School,” Mr Mott said.

“The students’ art and Esti’s mural will be enjoyed by patients and visitors for many years to come.”

Mr Mott said community engagement is an important part of the culture at Hollywood Private Hospital.

The new ED is due to open later this year and will provide local residents with the option to access timely private emergency care close to home.
