Clinical Practice

Dr Spiro is an Interventional Cardiologist with a particular interest in coronary physiology, complex coronary intervention and structural heart disease. He has specific interest in the streamlined management of patients with chest pain. He has established both a coronary physiology program at Royal Perth and an East Metro wide rapid access chest pain service. Dr Spiro remains active in post graduate and junior doctor education and holds an honorary senior lecturer position at the University of Western Australia.

Background and Training

Dr Spiro completed cardiology training in the UK, attending world-renowned training centres, including University College London, Imperial College London, The National Heart & Lung Institute, The John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford and University Hospitals Birmingham. During this time he completed his training in coronary and structural intervention as well as adult congenital heart disease. In addition to his clinical training, Dr Spiro completed a period of dedicated research at Imperial College London (National Heart & Lung Institute) and was awarded with his research MD in 2010.

Following completion of UK specialist training, Dr Spiro attended Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital as an interventional fellow, before taking up his current consultant post at Royal Perth Hospital that include Director of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Lead Clinician for the Chest Pain Clinic, & Coronary Physiology program lead. His research findings have been presented at international scientific meetings as well as being published in several high impact factor journals.
