Dr Arieh Keren

Dr Keren is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist. He is an expert in he advanced management of atrial fibrillation, ablation and management of cardiac arrhythmias and the implantation and follow up of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices for heart failure management. He is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist with a particular interest in advanced management of defibrillator shocks and ventricular arrhythmias.

Clinical Practice

Dr Keren is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Perth Cardiovascular Institute (PCI) at Hollywood Private Hospital.

Dr Arieh Keren is an expert in the advanced management of atrial fibrillation, ablation and management of cardiac arrhythmias and the implantation and follow up of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices for heart failure management. He is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist with a particular interest in advanced management of defibrillator shocks and ventricular arrhythmias.

He is a founding member of the pioneering WA Inherited Cardiac disorders and Genetics service. This service investigates and treats patients and families with inherited heart conditions, particularly those leading to sudden death in young people.

Background & Training

Arieh graduated medicine from the University of Melbourne. He completed basic residency and registrar training at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. Arieh completed physician and advanced cardiology training at Royal Perth Hospital. He then completed a Clinical Electrophysiology and Pacing Fellowship at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Following that, he completed an advanced Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship and worked as a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada. He spent four years working at this world renowned cardiovascular centre before returning to Perth.

He has been involved in national and international clinical research and been an invited speaker at a number of national and International meetings. He has a long history of dedicated teaching and education commitments both in Australia and abroad, and held an academic appointment as senior lecturer and Assistant Professor of Medicine with the University of Ottawa, Canada. He has previously been the Vice President of the Australian Humanitarian Foundation.

Dr Keren was the founder and previously held the position of head of the Advanced Ventricular Arrhythmia Management Service at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. This service continues to be a centre of excellence and the major referral centre for the state and takes patients from all hospitals including Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospitals. At the time of his tenure his team offered one of the most advanced Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation services in the country for critically ill patients with ventricular arrhythmias and defibrillator shocks. The service is still run as a multidisciplinary team including Cardiac surgeons and specialized anaesthetists, perfusionists, nurses and technicians and, when needed, can utilize external circulation support systems only available in the world's most advanced centres.
