Hollywood celebrates nurses on 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth

May 12, 2020

Nurses at Hollywood Private Hospital receive countless accolades each year.

They come in many forms, including cards, letters, emails and through the feedback forms.

This year for International Nurses Day (12 May), the hospital displayed some of these compliments alongside photographs of some of the hospital’s 900 nurses.

International Nurses Day is held each year on Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

This year was even more special because 2020 has been named the ‘International year of the Nurse and Midwife’ by the World Health Organization (WHO) marking the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

Florence Nightingale founded the profession of nursing, and many of her ideas are fundamental to the way nursing is practiced today.

Hollywood Director of Clinical Services, Karen Gullick, said it was important to celebrate nurses and what they bring to the health system.

“Nurses make up the largest proportion of the health workforce worldwide,” she said.

“We are proud of our nursing team, and International Nurses Day provides an opportunity to celebrate their contribution to health and healthcare.

“Our nurses hail from many parts of the world, but they come together as a team to provide excellent care for our patients.”
