Hollywood expands private mental health services with an additional 31 inpatient beds

Hollywood Private Hospital is building a dedicated mental health day hospital and expanding existing inpatient services following a 60 per cent rise in psychiatry admissions over the past five years.

This major development will see The Hollywood Clinic grow by 31 beds bringing the total number of inpatient beds to 101.

Hollywood Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Peter Mott, said the development would strengthen Hollywood and Ramsay Health Care’s position as a leader in mental health services.

“With one in five people experiencing a mental health issue in any given year, we know the importance of providing comprehensive mental health services to the community,” Mr Mott said.

“The significant growth in our mental health admissions can largely be attributed to the success of our programs at The Hollywood Clinic,” Mr Mott said. “We also know there has been a reduction in stigma around mental health and more people are seeking help for their issues.”

“The new mental health day hospital will enable our team of multidisciplinary experts to provide additional day services, which will increase options for people wanting to remain in the community while they are receiving treatment,” Mr Mott said.

Mr Mott said the expansion had been carefully planned to promote a healing environment with plenty of light and space.

“The day hospital is purpose built and will have multiple group therapy rooms and a neuro stimulation suite for electroconvulsive therapy and transcranial magnetic simulation,” he said.

The project is the hospital’s fourth major expansion to mental health services since The Hollywood Clinic opened in 1997.

Ramsay Health Care has a long history in the area of mental health services with its first clinic established by Founder, the late Paul Ramsay, in Sydney in 1964.

Since then Ramsay Health Care has grown to be the largest provider of private mental health services in Australia operating 25 mental health units across the country with approximately 1, 000 beds. Ramsay hospitals treat more than 70,000 mental health patients every year.
