International Clinical Trials Day: improved access as Hollywood Private Hospital expands service

West Australians will have improved access to clinical trials with a significant expansion of the service at Hollywood Private Hospital.
There are currently 13 active trials clinical trials at Hollywood Private Hospital and 23 patients on trials.
The Hollywood Private Hospital Clinical Trials Unit has expanded in recent years and offers a wider range of trials. More trials are expected to be offered in the future.
Some of the clinical trials underway at Hollywood include studies in:
- Lymphoma
- Diffuse Large B Cell lymphoma
- Multiple myeloma
- Prostate cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Non-small cell lung cancer
Clinical Trial Manager Skye Ridley said clinical trials are a crucial type of research to find new and better ways of detecting, diagnosing and treating cancer.
“Clinical trials aim to improve the treatment options for patients and their quality of life,” Ms Ridley said.
Chief Executive Officer Andrew Tome said the hospital is investing heavily in medical research.
“We are thrilled to be participating in several high-profile international clinical trials and are well placed to offer more novel therapies for patients in the future,” Mr Tome said.
The importance of clinical trials will be highlighted around the world on May 20 for International Clinical Trials Day. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the importance of clinical trials and research in healthcare.
Mr Tome said International Clinical Trials Day was a great opportunity to recognise the staff involved in clinical trials and to say “thank you” for the important work they do improving the healthcare outcomes for patients.
