More options for patients with $67m ED opening at Hollywood Private Hospital

Oct 27, 2021

WA Health Minister Roger Cook has today unveiled Hollywood Private Hospital’s new emergency department (ED), which features six levels and three new wards.

The $67 million project is the second private ED in WA and will be open to both private and public patients from Monday, November 1.

Hollywood is WA’s largest hospital and the new development expands the hospital’s capacity to over 900 licensed beds.

Hollywood Chief Executive Officer Peter Mott said the new ED will benefit many Perth residents by giving them the option to access timely private emergency care close to home.

“Our emergency department is the first private ED north of the river,” Mr Mott said.

Features of the ED include 13 patient bays (including an isolation room), a triage assessment room, a resuscitation room and a spacious waiting lounge area.

An additional 60 inpatient beds will be available in the wards above the ED and there is the capacity to open a further 30 beds at a later date.

Mr Mott said an important aspect of the ED is it is specialist-led, meaning patients will be seen by an emergency specialist.

“Our aim is to provide the best possible emergency health care for patients in a timely manner,” Mr Mott said.

Patients will also have ease of access to Hollywood’s extensive healthcare services all on one campus.

“Patients will benefit from emergency care, cardiac and a range of other medical and surgical services,” Mr Mott said.

“Patients will also have access to nursing and allied health services, such as support in the home through Ramsay Connect and physiotherapy with Ramsay Health Plus.”

The new ED wing has been named after Sylvia Perry, who served in the Australian Army Nursing Service and worked at Hollywood. The three wards have been named after Victoria Cross recipients Lawrence McCarthy and Martin O’Meara and George Cross recipient Arthur Bagot.

The new ED is part of a $200 million investment by Ramsay Health Care to ensure Hollywood helps meet the demands for health care services in WA today and well into the future.

Ramsay Health Care operates about 50 EDs around the world, including 11 in Australia.
