Smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country held at Hollywood Private Hospital Emergency Department site
Jul 22, 2020
A traditional Noongar smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country has been held at Hollywood Private Hospital where the new Emergency Department (ED) is being built.
The ceremony was led by Noongar Elder Neville Collard JP, who blessed guests and the ED site, and told stories about the land where the hospital was built and Noongar traditions that took place in the area.
During the event, which was organised by builder Georgiou Group, Mr Collard also handcrafted a traditional kodj (axe), which he presented to Hollywood Chief Executive Officer, Peter Mott.
Mr Mott said the axe would be on display in the new ED, which is scheduled for completion in September 2021.
Hollywood’s new ED will be the second private purpose built ED for Perth, and the first north of the Swan River.
In addition to the ED, three 30-bed wards will be built to accommodate emergency admissions.
The $67.1 million ED project is the final stage in a $200 million five-year investment by Ramsay Health Care to expand Hollywood.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Mental Health, the Honourable Roger Cook MLA officially opened a major expansion of the hospital’s mental health services on 14 July 2020.
