Like other types of cancer, brain cancer is caused by an abnormal and erratic growth of cells. These clusters of cells are commonly called brain tumours, but not all brain tumours are cancer. Benign tumours are usually very slow growing, if they grow at all, and do not spread to other parts of the body.
There are many different types of brain cancer and some tumours grow faster than others. Some brain tumours are caused by cancer that started elsewhere in the body and these are known as secondary brain tumours.
Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
