In his role as a Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon Mr. Lucas Sanders oversees the complete spectrum of thoracic patient care. This encompasses diagnostic procedures and surgical interventions for lung, mediastinal, and pleural conditions. Notably, 95% of his practice involves the utilisation of keyhole surgery, with a primary focus on keyhole lobectomies, constituting more than half of the cases. The remaining procedures encompass isolated metastasis resection and the treatment of various other thoracic conditions.
Mr. Sanders conducts weekly operations at Hollywood Private Hospital where he applies a minimally invasive approach to lung surgery. His proficiency is evidenced by having successfully performed well over a hundred Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) lobectomies.
Committed to the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients, Mr. Sanders oversees their comprehensive work-up in collaboration with respiratory, radiology, and nuclear physician colleagues. For patients from rural areas, he is willing to liaise with General Practitioners to coordinate investigations in Perth.
Background and Training
Originally from the Netherlands, Mr. Sanders has been a cardiothoracic surgeon since 1997. With 12 years of practice in South Africa specialising in cardiothoracic surgery, he later served as a locum surgeon at Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven upon his return. Since 2008, Mr. Sanders has held the position of consultant at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, reflecting his enduring dedication to advancing the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
