Dr Muwanwella is a Specialist Gastroenterologist who treats all gastroenterological conditions from the rooms at Riverview Endoscopy at Hollywood Medical Centre. These range from Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease). He understands that proper patient education is a key component in management of all gastrointestinal conditions and supplies patients with information and other referral materials.
Niroshan performs procedures at the gastroenterology unit at Hollywood Private Hospital. He is a firm believer in a process of informed consent for gastroenterological procedures and spends time explaining procedure details and adverse effects to his patients. He performs diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy including bowel cancer screening. He also performs therapeutic Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) for Barrett’s Mucosa including early oesophageal adenocarcinoma. In addition he treats complex colonic polyps and Laterally Spreading Tumours (LST) with Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR).
Background & Training
Dr Muwanwella moved to Australia in 2007 having completed his basic medical education in Sri Lanka. He underwent postgraduate training in Western Australia and completed FRACP. Following Advanced Training in Gastroenterology, he obtained accreditation with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) for gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He further subspecialized in interventional endoscopy with a fellowship at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and in the prestigious St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Following the Advanced Fellowship Dr Muwanwella obtained GESA accreditation for ERCP procedures.
