Dr Steven Ward is a Specialist Physician in Haematology and Pathology. Presently, Steve divides his time between part-time roles at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and private practice. His private practice spans multiple locations, including Hollywood, Joondalup, and Western Diagnostic Pathology, where he serves as the head of the department.
With a broad general interest in Haematology, Steve's current focus revolves around chronic blood disorders, encompassing chronic leukaemias, myeloproliferative disorders, low-grade lymphoma, myeloma, iron deficiency and overload, as well as coagulation disorders. His expertise extends to all aspects of laboratory haematology.
A member of several haematological societies, including HSANZ, ASBT, ALLG, BSH, EHA, and ASH, Steve actively contributes to the advancement of the field. Beyond his medical pursuits, he dedicates time to developing computer programs and web-based apps to enhance medical practice. Outside of his professional life, Steve enjoys travel, wine, and photography.
Background and Training:
Steve was born and attended medical school in Aberdeen, Scotland. He commenced his basic postgraduate training in the United Kingdom before relocating to Perth, where he continued his specialised training in Haematology. In 1998, he achieved the status of a specialist physician and pathologist in haematology, earning fellowships from both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
Steve has been an integral part of the medical community at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital since 1990 and has also contributed to the healthcare landscape at Royal Perth Hospital. His extensive training and professional affiliations underscore his expertise in the field of Haematology.
