Dr Melita Cirillo is a Specialist Physician in Haematology & Pathology with an interest in malignant haematology, particularly lymphoma, myeloma and leukaemia, and consultative haematology including obstetric haematology, bleeding and clotting disorders.

Dr Cirillo believes that clear communication is one of the most important aspects in developing good relationships. She understands that blood conditions can be complex and many aspects of disease affect patient life. She aims to help provide clarity over therapeutic options and facilitate informed choices during the patient journey.

Background & Training
Dr Cirillo completed her medical training at the University of Western Australia and worked as a junior doctor at Royal Perth Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital where she completed a Diploma in Obstetrics in 2011 (DRANZCOG). She later worked in Hawkes Bay (New Zealand) before returning to Perth to complete her training. She was awarded the AMAWA Junior Doctor of the Year in 2015 for her work in teaching and training for junior doctors.

Current Appointments

Dr Cirillo currently works as a Specialist Physician in Haematology at Royal Perth Hospital and Western Haematology and Oncology Clinics. She has an interest in translational clinical research and completed a fellowship in Cologne, Germany with the German Hodgkin Lymphoma Study Group.

She is the lead investigator on several trials at Royal Perth Hospital and brings her experience in the field of liquid biopsy to the research group at Perth Blood Institute. 

She is the recipient of research grants from WA Cancer Oncology Group, WA Health Research Registrar Program and Medical Research Foundation at Royal Perth Hospital.

Professional Memberships

She maintains professional memberships with the Australian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Group (ALLG), Australasian Lymphoma Alliance (ALA) and Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ).
