Clinical Practice
Dr. Azim Khan is a Specialist Physician in Medical Oncology, focusing on gastrointestinal cancers, melanoma, genitourinary, breast, gynecological, and lung cancers. He serves as a Specialist Physician in Medical Oncology at Northam Regional Hospital, focusing on a diverse range of cancer subtypes. Additionally, Dr. Khan practices as a private medical oncologist at Hollywood Private Hospital, providing comprehensive treatment for all cancer subtypes.
Background & Training:
Azim completed his initial specialist training at Sir Charles Gairdner and Fiona Stanley Hospitals in Perth. He furthered his expertise through a Clinical Research Fellowship awarded by WA Palliative Care Network - WA Health. This fellowship, based at Fiona Stanley Hospital and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, focused on breast cancer. In 2020, he completed his Fellowship in Medical Oncology, followed by a clinical fellowship in Geriatric Medicine from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in 2021. This additional training equips him to expertly manage and customize treatments for the elderly population with cancer, aligning with international standards.
Research & Clinical Trials:
Actively engaged in clinical and translational research, Dr. Khan has authored and presented numerous poster publications in high-impact conferences and reputable journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Annals of Oncology. His research, particularly in breast cancer and outcomes of cancers in the Indigenous population, has been highlighted in various international and national conferences. Currently, he is the recipient of a research grant from the Cancer Trials Unit, focusing on assessing sarcopenia as a surrogate radiological biomarker for the cancer population across all age groups, including immunotherapy and chemotherapy patients. As a sub-investigator in multiple solid organ malignancy trials at Hollywood Private Hospital, Dr. Khan actively contributes to advancing cancer treatment. Furthermore, he is enthusiastic about developing a novel sub-specialty in geriatric oncology to enhance holistic care and improve survival outcomes for older adults with cancer.
