Clinical Practice
Mr Aaron Tay is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty expertise in shoulder and knee conditions. He is known for his caring and approachable manner, working closely with each patient to provide individualised, evidence-based treatment. Aaron performs minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures, joint replacement surgery, and utilises advanced technologies including computer-assisted planning and robotic-assisted surgery. He consults privately at The Orthopaedic Group in Nedlands and operates at Hollywood Private Hospital. Aaron also maintains a strong commitment to public health, providing upper limb and trauma services at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), where he has held significant leadership and training roles.
Background & Training
Born in Singapore and raised in Perth, Aaron completed his schooling at Scotch College before studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Western Australia. He began his medical career at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital before moving to New South Wales to undertake Orthopaedic surgical training, later returning to Western Australia to complete his specialist training in 2007. To further subspecialise in shoulder and knee surgery, Aaron completed advanced international fellowships:
- France (Rennes & Lyon) – training with internationally recognised shoulder surgeons in arthroscopy and joint replacement
- Canada – fellowship at a leading Sports Shoulder, Elbow & Knee clinic involved in elite ice hockey and football athlete care
In 2011, Aaron returned to Perth and joined The Orthopaedic Group WA, while maintaining active public appointments at SCGH. He served as Head of Department from 2019–2025 and is currently Supervisor of the SCGH Upper Limb and Trauma Fellowship, a year-long program attracting international surgeons.Aaron is also deeply committed to medical education. He was Senior Lecturer in Anatomy at UWA from 2012–2018 and served as Director of Orthopaedic Training at SCGH under the Australian Orthopaedic Association from 2015–2018.
