Dr Fernando Picazo-Pineda is a Vascular Surgeon who provides vascular and endovascular services at Hollywood Private Hospital and at Royal Perth Hospital. His clinical focus includes the treatment of varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease, diabetic foot, renal access for dialysis, thoracic outlet syndrome and aortic aneurysms. Fernando is a firm believer in multidisciplinary care and works with other medical specialists like endocrinologists, orthopaedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and infectious disease experts to ensure the best outcome for his patients. He has worked for many years in the public system treating patients with arterial and venous diseases. He is part of the Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit where he assesses and manages patients to improve their blood supply, remove infected tissue of their feet to make ulcers heal and avoid limb amputations. He also operates on a regular basis patients with varicose veins, aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome and renal access for dialysis.
Fernando is proficient in English, Spanish, and Catalan, allowing him to provide services to a diverse range of patients who prefer conversing in their native languages.
Background & training
Fernando graduated from University of Navarre in Spain in 2011 and worked as a consultant vascular surgeon at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, the leading hospital complex in Catalonia and one of the largest in Spain before immigrating to Australia in 2017. Prior to his appointment at Royal Perth Hospital Dr Picazo-Pineda worked as a Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where he got further trained in highly complex endovascular surgery. He attained the Fellowship of the European Board of Vascular Surgery with Honours, being awarded the Gold Medal given to the highest score of the exam. Becoming the first Spanish Vascular Surgeon in the exam’s history to receive such award. He is also a fellow of the Royal Australasia of Surgeons in the speciality of Vascular Surgery.
